Taxonomic Remarks

Belongs to the Notospermus geniculatus cryptic species complex, which is found globally in warm waters. Appears most closely related to the true N. geniculatus (per Kajihara et al. 2022; BOLD BIN AEB6981), and another local undescribed species, Notospermus sp. SMSA074, but can be distinguished from those by COI sequence data (~12-13% divergent).

Cephalic lobe sub-rectangular, about twice as long as it is wide. The anterior margin can appear deeply notched or slightly pointed depending on the state of contraction and movement. Red cerebral ganglia visible through body wall and lateral slits. Ocelli lacking or not detectable externally.
