Taxonomic Remarks

This species has skeletal features and measurements that are not found in any other known species within this genus. Megasclares: strongyles, tornotes and unusual tylotic onychaetes. Tylotic onychaetes are only found in other species of this genus, but it has different skeletal elements.

Description of Material

Specimens are caliculate (cup-goblet) in shape with protrusions around the outer edge. These protrusions are not apparent in the smallest specimen. The central oscula of the specimens are composed of a sieve like surface. Specimens are between 1-10 cm in length. The base of the specimens are brown which becomes paler further up the specimen. Megasclere: Strongyle: 470-550 μm,Tornote: 460-500 μm, Microsclere: Onychaete (tylotic): 800-900 μm, Raphides/Microxea: 120-160 μm

Ecology

Hydroids found growing on the surface of one of the specimens.
