Taxonomic Remarks

Utelga sp.2 also seems more related to U. pseudohenckei because of the three hooks of same shape. However, the three hooks are different in size, curved and present a well-developed, proximal flap. These hook (57 µm, 40 µm and 34 µm long, respectively) are much longer than those in U. pseudohenckei (5–8 µm), U. henckei (4–14 µm), and Utelga sp. 1 (25 µm).

Description of Material

Species of Utelga with three distal hooks of same shape but different size in the male copulatory bulb. The hooks are 56–58 µm (x¯ = 57 µm; n = 2), 39–41 µm (x¯ = 40 µm; n = 2) and 34 µm long (n = 2), respectively. These hooks are conical, curved and end in a sharp tip, proximally with a well-developed flap.

Ecology

On red fillamentous algae with silt, intertidal, salinity 35 ‰. On algae (Acanthophora sp. and fillamentous), 0.5 m deep, salinity 37 ‰.
