Taxonomic Remarks

The general morphology of Schizorhynchidae sp.6 is very similar to that of Schizorhynchidae sp.3. However, Schizorhynchidae sp.6 is differentiable because of the lack of epidermal pigmentation and the presence of a single adhesive belt, located in the posterior part of the body. Furthermore, the cirrus of Schizorhynchidae sp.6 does not present spines, as is the case in Schizorhynchidae sp.3.

Description of Material

Species of Schizorhynchidae unpigmented and without eyes. One adhesive belt is distinguished in the posterior part of the body. Proboscis small, with symmetric lips, without posterior glands sheathed by muscles. A pair of testes anterior to the pharynx; testes located at the body sides. Atrial organs located in the posterior third of the body. The male bulb receives the seminal vesicles and encompasses the prostate vesicle, an unarmed cirrus, and ends in a sclerotised cap. The cap is 14 µm long. Ovary and bursa located posterior to the male system; however, their connections where not distinguished.
