Taxonomic Remarks
Species of Brinkmanniella are easily recognised because they are the only representatives of the taxon Thalassotyphloplanida with the ovaries positioned anterior to the testes. Eight species of Brinkmanniella are known and they are differentiable by their pigmentation and morphology of the male stylet. Only two species of Brinkmanniella present a curved stylet: B. procerastyla and B. macrostomoides. Brinkmanniella sp.1 differs from B. procerastyla because the later species lack eyes and its stylet bent two times (proximally and distally) and ends in a sharp tip. Otherwise, the stylet of Brinkmanniella sp.1 is only curved distally and ends in a blunt tip. Brinkmanniella macrostomoides present a short (58–66 µm long) and funnel-shaped stylet, curved distally, and ending in a sharp tip; otherwise, the stylet of Brinkmanniella sp.1 is much larger (124–127 µm long).
