Taxonomic Remarks

Serolina MoV7424 is notable for the swollen lateral bosses on the pleotelson near the bases of the uropods. The species is known only from a juvenile without adult male or female features. Interim diagnosis. Female body 1.23 times as long as wide. Head without posterior lobe; middorsal crests scarcely visible in lateral view; pereonites 1–6 without sublateral ridges or tubercles, pereonites without submedial tubercles along posterior margins. Coxal dorsal plate margins 1–4 marginally contiguous; coxal dorsal plates 5, 6 set in from plate 4; 6 narrow and acute, reaching halfway along pleonal epimeron 2. Pleonal epimera 2 and 3 similar, acute. Pleotelson 0.7 times as long as wide, with pair of smooth bosses at base of uropod attachment. Uropodal exopod three-quarters length of endopod, apex oblique.

The species is known from a single juvenile, 5.3 mm long.

Ecology

Like all members of this family, Serolidae, the species is benthic living on the surface of the sediment.

Distribution

Australia, Western Australia. IMCRA Northwest Shelf Province; 39 m depth (known only from type locality).
