Taxonomic Remarks

This species differs from R. zingiber by its less rounded whorls, higher number of axial ribs, much clearer spiral sculpture on the early teleoconch whorls, the absense of denticles on the columella and a different color pattern. It differs from R sp1 by its less rounded whorls, narrower aperture, lower number of stronger axial ribs, clearer spiral sculpture on the early whorls and the different color.

Description of Material

Shell of average size for the genus, adult size up to 3.0 mm; fusifom with slightly rounded whorls. Suture slightly impressed. Not translucent. Protoconch paucispiral, consisting of about 1.5 smooth whorls. Transition to teleoconch clearly visible. Teleoconch consisting of about 3.1 whorls. Axial sculpture of 13 strong ribs on the first whorl increasing to 18 on the last whorl. The last clear axial rib close to the aperture is much stronger sloping to the edge of the aperture, with two more obsolete ribs in ths last part. Spiral sculpture present on all teleoconch whorls and constisting of rather flat cords with narrow interspaces, which overrun the axial ribs. On the first whorl there are about 6 of these spiral cords, on the second whorl there are 7. On the last whorl, 13 of these cords are present, going over in the basal cords abapically. Basal cords clearly present, ventrally ranging to about the adapical end of the columella. Aperture average width for the genus, about 47% of shell height. Outside of outer lip clearly thickened, with the continuation of the basal cords and spiral sculpture clearly present. Inside of outer lip with a clear sinus on the adapical end and 5 clearly present denticles. Columellar callus clearly present, slightly raised, smooth. Parietal callus clearly present. Siphonal canal short, but slightly longer than other Retizafra, open, slightly recurved. Shell color pale pinkisk on the early whorls, more pale on the last whorl. Aperture, columella and parietal callus white. Protoconch salmon color. Height of holotype: 3.0 mm

Ecology

Direct developing species with paucispiral protoconch, so non planctotrophic larvae. Most likely endemic.
