Taxonomic Remarks

This species is closest to R. zingiber Monsecour & Monsecour, 2016. It differs by its much less rounded whorls, its much higher number of axial ribs and different form of aperture.

Description of Material

Shell of average size for the genus, adult size up to 3.7 mm; fusifom with weakly rounded whorls. Suture slightly impressed. Protoconch paucispiral, consisting of about 1.5 smooth whorls. Transition to teleoconch clearly visible. Teleoconch consisting of about 3.2 whorls. Axial sculpture of strong axial ribs on all whorls. About 17 ribs on the first teleoconch whorl to 18-19 ribs on the lower whorls. The last axial rib close to the aperture is much stronger sloping to the edge of the aperture. Spiral sculpture absent in the beginning of the first whorl, very weak near the end of this whorl and becoming clearly visible on the second whorl. This spiral sculpture exists of strong rather flat cords with rather narrow interspaces. which overrun the axial ribs. On the second whorl 7 of these ribs are present. On the last whorl there are 14 of these cords, going over in the basal cords. Subsutural cord stronger than the other cords. Basal cords ventrally ranging to just below the adapical end of the columella. Aperture average width for the genus, about 45% of shell height. Outside of outer lip thick, with continuation of the spiral scuplture. Inside of outer lip with a sinus on the adapical end and 5 strong denticles. Columellar callus thick, with a ridge of merged denticles. Parietal callus clearmy present. Siphonal canal short, open, slightly recurved. Shell color uniform cream. The inside of the aperture white. Columella white, with the ridge weak brown. Parietal callus white. Protoconch brown. Height of holotype: 3.7 mm

Ecology

Direct developing species with paucispiral protoconch, so non planctotrophic larvae. Most likely endemic.
