Taxonomic Remarks

his species differs from A. pinguis by its more elegant shell, more shouldered whorls, higher number of teleoconch whorls, different form of axial ribs and narrower aperture. It differs from A. sp 15 by its bigger, more slender shell, higher number of teleoconch whorls and much clearer basal cords. It differs from A. sp16 by its more elegant shell, lower number of protoconch whorls, presence of a subsutural cord, more clear basal cords and different denticulation on the inside of the outer lip.

Description of Material

Shell of very small size for the genus, adult size up to 2.7 mm; fusifom, elongate. Slightly translucent. Slightly rounded whorls. Suture slightly impressed. Protoconch paucispiral, consisting of about 1.2 smooth whorls. Transition to teleoconch clearly visible. Teleoconch consisting of about 3.1 whorls. Axial sculpture on all whorls, consisting of axial ribs with rather narrow interspaces. There are 15 ribs on the first teleoconch whorl, 14-16 on the next teleoconch whorls. Last axial ribs close to the aperture much weaker, alomst obsolete. Spiral sculpture absent apart from the basal cords consisting of one narrow subsutural cord. Basal cords clearly present and reaching to the adapical end of the columella. Aperture rather narrow for the genus, about 47% of shell height. Outside of outer lip with the continuation of the basal cords on the abapical end. Inside of outer lip with a weak sinus and with 2 denticles just below the sinus. Columellar callus clearly present, slightly raised, smooth. Parietal callus clearly present. Siphonal canal short, open, slightly recurved. First teleoconch whorls beige, later teleoconch whorls off-white. Aperture and columella white. Protoconch beige. Height of holotype: 2.6 mm

Ecology

Direct developing species with paucispiral protoconch, so non planctotrophic larvae. Most likely endemic.
