Taxonomic Remarks

This species differs from all other deep water Anachis from the region by its straight whorls, slightly incised suture and high number of axial ribs. It is closest to A. delapsarbocola Monsecour & Chino, 2025 originating from Taiwan, but differs in the lower number of teleoconch whorls, the much weaker subsutural cord, the absence of other spiral sculpture apart from the basal cords, the shorter siphonal canal and the absence of denticles on the columella.

Description of Material

Shell of small size for the genus, adult size up to 4.6 mm; fusifom, elongate, slightly shouldered whorls. Suture slightly impressed. Protoconch paucispiral, consisting of about 1.5 smooth whorls. Transition to teleoconch clearly visible. Teleoconch consisting of about 3.6 whorls. Axial sculpture on all whorls, consisting of axial ribs with rather narrow interspaces. There are 17 ribs on the first teleoconch whorl and 15 on the later whorls. Spiral sculpture apart from the basal cords only consisting of a narrow weak subsutural cord, creating a kind of knob on the intersections with the axial ribs. The basal cords are clearly present and reach to just above the adapical end of the columella. Aperture average width for the genus, about 46% of shell height. Outside of outer lip with the continuation of the basal cords. Inside of outer lip without a clear sinus and with 6 denticles. The two most adapical denticles are much stronger than the others. Columellar callus clearly present, slightly raised, smooth. Parietal callus weaker, but clearly present. Siphonal canal short, open, slightly recurved. Teleoconch, aperture, columella and protoconch off-white. Height of holotype: 4.6 mm

Ecology

Direct developing species with paucispiral protoconch, so non planctotrophic larvae. Most likely endemic.
