Taxonomic Remarks

This species differs from A. facula which lives in the same area, by its bigger size, more elegant shell and its more elongate and more narrow aperture with different denticulation on the inside of the outer lip. It differs from sp 11 by its wider, bigger protoconch, narrower and more elongate shell, lower number of axial ribs, much narrower aperture and the presence of denticles on the inside of the outer lip.

Description of Material

Shell of small size for the genus, adult size up to 5.0mm; fusifom, elongate, shouldered whorls. Suture slightly impressed. Protoconch paucispiral, consisting of about 1.25 smooth whorls. Transition to teleoconch clearly visible. Teleoconch consisting of about 4.0-4.1 whorls. Axial sculpture on all whorls, consisting of axial ribs with interspaces of about the same width as the ribs. Adapical end of the ribs some stronger as the rest of the ribs, creating a kind of knob on these places. There are 15 ribs on the first teleoconch whorl, 14 on the second and the third whorl and 13 on the last whorl. Last axial ribs much weaker, but the knob on the adapical end stays strong. Spiral sculpture apart from the basal cords absent. The basal cords are clearly present and reach to the adapical end of the columella. Aperture rather narrow for the genus, about 45% of shell height. Outside of outer lip with the continuation of the basal cords. Inside of outer lip without a clear sinus and with 4-5 denticles. The most adapical and most abapical denticle much stronger than the others. Columellar callus clearly present, slightly raised, smooth. Parietal callus weaker, but clearly present. Siphonal canal short, open, slightly recurved. Teleoconch, aperture and columella white. Protoconch semi-translucent off-wite to cream. Height of holotype: 4.8 mm

Ecology

Direct developing species with paucispiral protoconch, so non planctotrophic larvae. Most likely endemic.
