Taxonomic Remarks

This species differs from A. inferiodentata by its smaller size, less translucent protoconch, less rounded whorls, the different denticulation on the inside of the outer lip and the presence of a rim on the columella. It differs from A. limula by its less translucent protoconch, more straight axial ribs, different form of aperture, stronger denticulation on the inside of the outer lip and a narrower siphonal canal. It differs from A. sp. nov 6 by its slightly more rounded whorls, slightly narrower and more elongate aperture and different denticulation on the inside of the outer lip.

Description of Material

Shell of small size for the genus, adult size up to 4.5mm; fusifom, elongate, rounded whorls. Suture slightly impressed. Protoconch paucispiral, consisting of about 1.3-1.4 smooth whorls. Transition to teleoconch clearly visible. Teleoconch consisting of about 3.7 whorls. Axial sculpture on all whorls, consisting of axial ribs with interspaces of about the same width as the width of the ribs. There are 10 ribs on each of the teleoconch whorls. The last axial rib close to the aperture is stronger. Spiral sculpture apart from the basal cords absent. The basal cords are clearly present and reach to the adapical end of the columella. Aperture average width for the genus, about 43% of shell height. Outside of outer lip with the continuation of the basal cords. Inside of outer lip with a weak sinus and with 6 denticles. Two most adapical denticles stronger than the others. Two most abapical semi-merged. Columellar callus clearly present, slightly raised, witha weak rim of semi-merged denticles. Parietal callus clearly present. Siphonal canal short, open, slightly recurved. Teleoconch semi-translucent white. Aperture and columella white. Protoconch not translucent white. Height of holotype: 4.4 mm

Ecology

Direct developing species with paucispiral protoconch, so non planctotrophic larvae. Most likely endemic.
