Taxonomic Remarks

This species differs from A. constrictocanalis by its bigger size, more straight whorls, higher number of much weaker axial ribs, wider aperture and a clear color pattern of brown spiral bands. It differs from A. sp. nov. 1 by its smaller size, higher number of different formed axial ribs, the absense of the subsutural cord, lower number of basal cords and a different color pattern. It differs from A. sp nov 2 by its less elegant shell, less rounded whorls, the higher number of axial ribs, absense of spiral sculpture other than the basal cords and the different color pattern. It differs from A. sp nov 7 by its bigger size, higher number of whorls, higher number of axial ribs, absense on denticles on the inside of the aperture and a different color pattern.

Description of Material

Shell of small size for the genus, adult size up to 5.0 mm; fusifom, elongate. Slightly rounded whorls. Suture slightly impressed. Protoconch paucispiral, consisting of about 1.5 smooth whorls. Transition to teleoconch weakly visible. Teleoconch consisting of about 4.1-4.2 whorls. Axial sculpture on all whorls, consisting of axial ribs with rather wide interspaces. There are 15 weak ribs on the first teleoconch whorl, 12 on the second whorl and 10 on each of both later whorls. Axial ribs more oblique on the last whorl. The last axial rib close to the aperture is stronger. Spiral sculpture apart from the basal cords absent. The basal cords are clearly present and reaching to the adapical end of the columella. Aperture rather wide for the genus, about 44% of shell height. Outside of outer lip with the continuation of the basal cords. Inside of outer lip without clear sinus and without denticles. Columellar callus clearly present, slightly raised, without denticulation. Parietal callus very weak. Siphonal canal short, open, slightly recurved. Teleoconch whorls off-white with a clear pattern of orange-brown spiral bands. On the first whorls, only a subsutural spiral band is visible. Further on the teleoconch a second band appears just above the suture. On the last whorl three bands are visible: the subsutural one, one at about midwhorl and one over the basal cords. Inside of aperture and columella whitish, with the spiral bands shining through. Protoconch semi-translucent white. Height of holotype: 4.9 mm

Ecology

Direct developing species with paucispiral protoconch, so non planctotrophic larvae. Most likely endemic.
