Taxonomic Remarks

This species ic close to A. inferiodentata Monsecour & Monsecour, 2016 and A. limula Monsecour & Monsecour, 2016 both from the North of New Caledonia. The new species differs from A. inferiodentata by the less rounded whorls, weaker axial ribs, absense of the two denticles near the constriction of the siphonal canal and the less clearly formed siphonal canal on the outer lip. It differs from A. limula by its slightly bigger size, higher number of teleoconch whorls, weaker and more straight axial ribs, and the absence of denticles on the inside of the outer lip and on the columella.

Description of Material

Shell of small size for the genus, adult size up to 5.5mm; fusifom, elongate. Slightly rounded whorls. Semi-translucent. Suture slightly impressed. Protoconch paucispiral, consisting of about 1.4-1.5 smooth whorls. Transition to teleoconch clearly visible. Teleoconch consisting of about 4.2 whorls. Axial sculpture on all whorls, consisting of axial ribs with wide interspaces. About 10-11 ribs on each whorl. The last axial rib close to the aperture is stronger. Spiral sculpture completely absent. Basal cords absent on the most abapical end of the canal, but 3-4 very weak cords are present just below the adapical end of the columella. On the doral side these cords are better visible. Aperture rather wide, about 45% of shell height. Outside of outer lip with continuation of the spiral sculpture on the abapical end. Inside of outer lip without a sinus and without denticulation. Columellar callus thin, slightly raised, without denticulation. Parietal callus very weak. Siphonal canal short, open, slightly recurved. Teleoconch whorls, inside of aperture, columella and protoconch all semi-translucent white. Height of holotype: 5.3 mm

Ecology

Direct developing species with paucispiral protoconch, so non planctotrophic larvae. Most likely endemic.
