Taxonomic Remarks

The only individual studied, which was initially confused with Aristias linnaei, corresponds to an adult female with non-setose oostegites. Further examination revealed the presence of highly distinctive characteristics, such as the tooth-like projections on the carpus of pereopods 3-4 (Fig. 2), which have not been observed in any other member of the Aristiidae family. The combination of characteristics presented in the diagnosis justify the description of this individual as a new species; however, it is necessary to wait until additional material is available.
