Taxonomic Remarks

This easily-recognised species differs from the type genus Tanaella in having the distinct uropod exopods (lacking or near-lacking in Tanaella). It resembles three species of Arhaphuroides from Australian waters (A. io, A. sala, and A. stabastris) but it differs from all these taxa in having more distinct eyelobes, and the proportion of pereonites and pleonites, antennule, and cheliped merus. A manuscript on the NZ Tanaellidae is nearing completion and this taxon will be under a new genus.
