Taxonomic Remarks

The nearest described species, P. longidactylus, is from near Tierra del Fuego, Chile, although another undescribed taxon is known from the SE Australian Slope. Detailed morphological work is needed to clarify differences.

Description of Material

A rather beautiful small tanaid with distinctive chelipeds (relatively large and curved chela), the pereopod setation it typically weak in this genus of tanaissuids.

Ecology

Benthic sediments, probably a shallow burrower or epibenthic.

Distribution

Bounty Trough, 188-1389, TAN2402 Stns 53, 54, 55. Also very common from the Hikurangi Margin to the Great South Basin, 670-1610 m.
