Taxonomic Remarks

This is one of a group of species in which the dactylus of pereopod-4 is simple (not hooked, denticulate, or otherwise). It is similar to L. angelikae (Antarctic) but the cheliped is more slender (?), the rostrum is longer with narrower "shoulders", and has shorter pereonites 4-6

Description of Material

A typical Leviapseudes – a deep-sea genus of the family Apseudidae. This is the first record of the genus in NZ waters.

Ecology

Benthic sediments. Possibly a shallow burrower or even partly epibenthic (males especially).
