Taxonomic Remarks

A near-typical Leptognathioides, but with a small terminal segment on the uropod exopod, like that of L. biarticulata (NE Atlantic). This genus is possibly synonymous with Portaratrum (definitely present in NZ waters), or with some overlap, but detailed work is required to review this.

A tanaid that has a body shape like that of Portaratrum, without a ventral spur on pleonite-5.

Ecology

Benthic sediments, possibly as a shallow burrower.

Bounty Trough, 1389-2821m, TAN2402 Stns 55, 73. Also Hikurangi Margin and southern slope of Chatham Rise, 1007-1495 m; rare.
