Taxonomic Remarks

A more gracile body and chelae make this taxon distinct from the other described species such as L. breviremis (NE Atlantic), L. aneristus (Kurile-Kamchatka Trench), and L. breviremoides (Antarctica) but more work is required. It is possible that more than one species is present.

Description of Material

A typical Leptognathia species, relatively small and stout, with single seta in ventral margin of the cheliped fixed finger, and recurved spurs on the pleonal sternites.

Ecology

Benthic sediments, possibly as a shallow burrower.

Bounty Trough, 775-982m, TAN2402 Stns 11, 35, 37. Also from Challenger Plateau and the Bay of Plenty to the Great South Basin, 726-1985
