Taxonomic Remarks

The only described species, I. ventrospinatus, is from the Gulf of Mexico (America?) although another undescribed species is present in the NE Atlantic. The carapace of NZ#1 is proportionately shorter than in the GOM species, and the pleonal spurs are not as produced, but more study is required to refine other distinctions. There may be another species in the Bounty Trough material, but this needs more study

A typical Insociabilitanais slender and shiny. Female shown without pleopods and with typical large hyposphenium on pereonite-1.

Ecology

Benthic sediments. Probably a shallow burrower.
