Taxonomic Remarks

This species appears to have strong distodorsal setae on the antenna articles 2-3 and a thin distoventral seta on the propodus of pereopods 1-3. This conflicts with existing genera Rakaduta (from the SE Australian slope) and Hamatipeda (also species from SE Australia). Further work is needed to clarify.

Description of Material

A typical hamatipedid, elongate, with hooks/spines on the carpus of pereopods 4-6 and lacking a “prickly tubercle” there, and with slender uropods.

Ecology

Benthic sediments, possibly a shallow burrower with self-constructed ‘tubes’ (burrow-linings).

Distribution

Bounty Trough, 775-1066 m, TAN2402 Stns 11, 25, 31, 37. Other records may exist from other NZ projects and this requires more study.
