Taxonomic Remarks

This species has a combination of features that make it fall out of available keys, because of its pereopod-1 merus with 1 seta; the pereopods 4-6 ischium with one seta; the pleonites 3-5 with dorsal setae; the pleopod exopod with four setae, and the endopod with 6-7. It might be closely related to C. antarcticus but there is insufficient description of that to be certain.

Ecology

Benthic sediments, probably as a shallow burrower.

Distribution

Bounty Trough, 982-1644 m, TAN2402 Stns 31. 37, 47. Also probable records from the Hikurangi Margin and the southern slope of the Chatham Rise, 942-1237 m.
