Interested in joining us on expedition?
We’re currently inviting marine taxonomists to join us for a second research cruise to the Arctic in partnership with the University of Tromsø and REV Ocean, onboard the impressive Norwegian icebreaker R/V Kronprins Haakon.
The expedition is due to take place 15 May – 16 June 2024 (with a port call on 4 June for exchange of personnel in Svalbard).
The expedition will explore a variety of habitats including canyons, abyssal plains, mid-ocean ridges, deep-sea hydrothermal vents and seamonts. We will visit canyons off the coast of Norway, the Mohns Ridge, and the Molloy Deep, which lies west of Svalbard. We are especially looking for applications from those with expertise in deep-sea anemones, black corals and molluscs.
The deadline for applications is 15 February
We are also seeking early Expressions of Interest for an Arctic taxonomy workshop that will take place in Tromsø (date to be confirmed, October 2024). The purpose of the workshop will be to work on deep-sea specimens collected during the Arctic expedition and identify taxa and discovery of new species as far as possible.
