discovery

What happens when you register a species?

Complete the online form with details of your discovery.

Our Science Manager will log your species and assign a unique Ocean Census species registration number.

Before submitting your research for publication, include the OC species number and acknowledgement.

Share your manuscript details before submission and provide the DOI or PDF once published.

Once published, the Ocean Census updates our species records and showcases your discovery in our global Biodiversity Data Platform.
