Taxonomic Remarks

Myobulla encompasses a cohesive species group characterised by a muscular seminal receptacle with a ring of four teeth. Currently, five species of Myobulla have been described, primarily distinguished by the morphology of the prostate stylet type III. Four of those species (M. armenterosi, M. berti, M. dunata, and M. swedmarki) are characterized by a sickle-shaped, prostate stylet type III, featuring a distinct proximal handle and a distal bent part, as is the case in the new species Myobulla sp.1. Myobulla sp.1 is differentiable by the presence of a sharp spine, pointing to the distal end of the stylet, a structure that lack in all other known species of Myobulla.

Description of Material

Species of Myobulla with a prostate stylet type III hook shaped, 72 µm long, and displaying a proximal ‘handle’ and a distal curved part. At the transition between the proximal and distal parts, the stylet presents a fold, which bears a sharp spine pointing in the direction of the most distal part of the stylet.
