Taxonomic Remarks

This species differs from R. sp11 by its wider less elegant shell, wider and different shape of the aperture, different number of axial ribs, much clearer spiral sculpture, different denticulation on the inside of the outer lip, and absence of rim and denticulation on the columella. It differs from R. sp2 by its wider less elegant shell, clear overal spiral sculpture, more clear sinus and stronger denticulation.

Description of Material

Shell of rather small size for the genus, adult size up to 3.1 mm; fusifom with slightly rounded whorls. Slightly shouldered. Suture slightly impressed. Protoconch paucispiral, consisting of about 1.5 smooth whorls. Transition to teleoconch clearly visible. Teleoconch consisting of about 3.2-3.3 whorls. Axial sculpture of strong axial ribs on all whorls. About 15 ribs on the first whorl, increasing to about 18 ribs on the last whorl. The last axial ribs close to the aperture are much weaker to obsolete. Spiral sculpture clearly present on all whorls and consisting of flat spiral cords with very narrow interspaces, which overrun the axial ribs. There are 7-8 of these cords on the first 2,5 whorls. On the last whorl there are about 14-15 of the cords,, which go abapically over in the basal cords. Transition to these cords not very clear. Basal cords ventrally ranging to just below the adapical end of the columella. Aperture rather wide for the genus, about 48% of shell height. Outside of outer lip slightly thickened with continuation of the spiral sculpture and basal cords. Inside of outer lip with a weak sinus on the adapical end and 4 denticles below this sinus Columellar callus thick, not raised, smooth inside. Parietal callus clearly present. Siphonal canal short, open, slighly recurved. Teleoconch white/off-white. Aperture, columella and parietal callus white. Protoconch white. Height of holotype: 3.1 mm

Ecology

Direct developing species with paucispiral protoconch, so non planctotrophic larvae. Most likely endemic.
