Taxonomic Remarks

This species is closest to Retizafra sp5. R. sp8 differs from this species by its more rounded whorls, its bigger protoconch, its more pronounced spiral sculpture, Higher number of basal cords, which end more adapically and the absense of the clear subsutural spiral cord.

Description of Material

Shell of rather small size for the genus, adult size up to 2.5 mm; fusifom with clearly rounded whorls. Suture slightly impressed. Slightly translucent. Protoconch paucispiral, consisting of about 1.5 smooth whorls. Transition to teleoconch clearly visible. Teleoconch consisting of about 3 whorls. Axial sculpture of about 17-19 strong ribs on all whorls. The last axial ribs close to the aperture not stronger. Spiral sculpture absent on first teleoconch whorl and appearing during the second whorl. Clearly visible on the last whorl. This spiral sculpture constist of 6 rather flat cords with narrow interspaces, which overrun the axial ribs. On the last whorl there are about 7-8 of these spiral cords, going over in the basal cords abapically. Basal cords clearly present, ventrally ranging to just below the adapical end of the aperture. Aperture average width for the genus, about 47% of shell height. Outside of outer lip not thickened, with the continuation of the basal cords and spiral sculpture clearly present. Inside of outer lip with a very weak sinus on the adapical end and not denticulate. Columellar callus clearly present, slightly raised, inside with a weak ridge and not denticulate. Parietal callus weak. Siphonal canal short, open, slightly recurved. Shell color overal white/off white. Aperture semi-translucent whitish. Columella white. Protoconch white. Height of holotype: 2.4 mm

Ecology

Direct developing species with paucispiral protoconch, so non planctotrophic larvae. Most likely endemic.
