Taxonomic Remarks

This species belongs to the group of A. inferiodentata, A. limula and the preceding species. But it can easily be separated from these three species by its less pronounced axial ribs and the presence of weak spiral sculpture on the later teleoconch whorls.

Description of Material

Shell of small size for the genus, adult size up to 5.3mm; fusifom, elongate. Rounded whorls. Semi-translucent. Suture slightly impressed. Protoconch paucispiral, consisting of about 1.5-1.6 smooth whorls. Transition to teleoconch weakly visible. Teleoconch consisting of about 4.1 whorls. Axial sculpture on all whorls, consisting of axial ribs with wide interspaces. About 8-9 ribs on each whorl, the last whorl has 11 ribs. The last axial rib close to the aperture is stronger. Spiral sculpture absent on the first whorls, but becoming gradually more visible on further teleoconch whorls, first a few cords just above the suture but gradually over the whole width of the whorls. This sculpture consists of weak flat cords with narrow interspaces. The basal cords are much clearly present than the other spiral cords and reach to just below the adapical edge of the columella. Aperture rather wide, about 45% of shell height. Outside of outer lip with continuation of the spiral sculpture. Inside of outer lip without a sinus and without denticulation. Columellar callus thin, not raised, without denticulation. Parietal callus very weak. Siphonal canal short, open, slightly recurved. Teleoconch whorls, inside of aperture, columella and protoconch all semi-translucent white. Height of holotype: 4.5 mm

Ecology

Direct developing species with paucispiral protoconch, so non planctotrophic larvae. Most likely endemic.
