Taxonomic Remarks

This species can be distinguished from S. biconica and S. corrugata Monsecour & Monsecour, 2016, two other deep water New Caledonian Seminella by its more elongate shell, lower number of protoconch whorls, higher number of teleoconch whorls, smooth first whorls, and the much weaker axial ribs.

Description of Material

Shell of average for the genus, adult size up to 2.6 mm; fusifom, elongate. Slightly shouldered whorls. Suture slightly impressed. Slightly translucent. Protoconch paucispiral, consisting of about 1.7-1.8 smooth whorls. Transition to teleoconch very weak. Teleoconch consisting of about 4.9 whorls. First two teleoconch whorls without axial sculpture. From the third whorl, very weak axial ribs occur, getting stronger towards the last whorl. There are 11-12 of these axial ribs on the third and fourth whorl, The last whorl shows 10 of these ribs, but these become obsolete closer to the aperture. Spiral sculpture absent, apart from the basal cords, which ventrally range to just above mid-columellar height. Aperture typical for the genus: narrow and elongate, about 48% of shell height. Outside of outer lip not thickened, with the continuation of the basal cords on the abapical end. Inside of outer lip without a clear sinus on the adapical end and with some slightly thickened spots, but not denticulate. Columellar callus clearly present, clearly raised, inside without a ridge and not denticulate. Parietal callus clealy present. Siphonal canal short, open, slightly recurved. Teleoconch and aperture completely white to off-white, first whorls not translucent, further whorls slightly translucent. Columella white. Protoconch not translucent white. Height of holotype: 2.6 mm

Ecology

Direct developing species with paucispiral protoconch, so non planctotrophic larvae. Most likely endemic.
