Taxonomic Remarks

The Comorian material differs morphologically from all known Harmothoe species in the region. It differs from Harmothoe branchiata Hartman, 1976 (type locality: Tuléar, Madagascar), Harmothoe sp. lacks transverse black lines and bars on the dorsum observed in H. branchiata, and in having a prostomium that is not distinctly subquadrate as in H. branchiata. Harmothoe dictyophora has been recorded from East Africa, the Indian Ocean, and Madagascar. However, its type locality is in the Philippines, and its reported cosmopolitan distribution likely reflects a species complex.
