Taxonomic Remarks

The Coral Sea species is a member of the Choerodon subgenus Pealopesia. It differs from the male and female colours of all other Pealopesia species except Choerodon aurulentus, whose female is not known. It differs from C. aurulentus, however, in having a different pattern of cheek squamation and morphology of the tubed lateral-line scales.
