Taxonomic Remarks

Overall colony shape: 1) Colony generally slender, rod-like, or whip-like; 2) Rachis narrow and elongated; 3) Polyp leaves usually smaller and less expanded; 4) Overall more delicate appearance Polyp leaf morphology: Polyp leaves generally smaller or less expanded; Autozooids sometimes more compressed against the rachis; Colony often appears more cylindrical Sclerites (microscopic characters): 1) Sclerites typically more evident; 2) Often well-developed rods/spindles Axis (internal rod): Stylatula may have a more slender axis Ecological tendencies (general patterns): Stylatula species can be common in deeper or more tropical settings (though this varies geographically)
