Taxonomic Remarks

The Comoros specimens were too small to assign to the genus level. Within the Dorvilleidae only Dorvillea has been recorded close to the Comoros. However, the Comorian specimens are not Dorvillea. Dorvillea gardineri has been recorded from Madagascar, Mozambique, and across eastern African countries. The Comorian specimen differs from D. gardineri by having two eyes (rather than four large eyes) and by the presence of furcate (forked) chaetae, which are absent in D. gardineri.
