After receiving submissions from around the world, the Ocean Census is proud to announce the six recipients of the first-ever Ocean Census Expedition Awards - a new programme designed to accelerate global marine species discovery by directly supporting those on the front lines of ocean science.

A new species of Galathea (Decapoda, Galatheidae) from the seamounts of the Easter Island area (Southeast Pacific Ocean Ridge) associated with a sea urchin
A new squat lobster, Galathea tukitukimea, is described from seamounts near Rapa Nui, representing the first record of the genus in this region and Chilean territory. The species consistently associates with a sea urchin, suggesting rare mimicry-based behaviour.

Exploring Deep-Sea Habitats of the Marshall Islands with Participant Scientist Luisa F. Dueñas
Luisa F. Dueñas, a member of the Ocean Census Science Network and Associate Professor in the Biology Department at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, will be representing our network on the upcoming Marshall Islands deep-sea expedition aboard Ocean Exploration Trust's E/V Nautilus.

Integrative taxonomy reveals a new species of the soapfish genus Rypticus (Teleostei: Grammistidae) from the eastern Atlantic Ocean
A new species of soapfish, Rypticus, is described from 14 specimens in the eastern Atlantic. Previously misidentified as R. saponaceus, it differs morphologically and is strongly supported as a distinct species by mitochondrial DNA analysis.
