Mar Del Plata Canyon
2025 Ocean Census Expedition Awardee, Dr. Daniel Lauretta of Museo Argentino de Ciencias Naturales Bernardino Rivadavia, joined Schmidt Ocean Institute on it's Underwater Oases of the Mar Del Plata Canyon expedition, as Chief Scientist.

Tanzania
This Ocean Census participant expedition saw one scientist, from the Ocean Census Science Network, working alongside the FAO to explore the seabed of Tanzania and record the diversity of the benthic habitat and fishes found at mesophotic depths.

Marshall Islands
The Ocean Census joined the Ocean Exploration Trust on it's Marshall Islands Expedition to explore biodiverse deep-sea habitats, over 300 seamounts, and extensive deep-sea ridges within the Marshall Islands newly established National Marine Sanctuaries of Bikar and Bokak.

Mariana Islands
The Ocean Census joined the Ocean Exploration Trust on it's Mariana Islands Expedition to explore one of the most tectonically and volcanically dynamic locations on the planet, with more than 60 submarine volcanoes, 21 of which are hydrothermally active.

Kenya
An Ocean Census Science Network participant worked alongside the FAO to assess fisheries resources and collect samples to improve knowledge on the diversity, distribution, abundance of fishery resources in Kenyan waters.

Antarctica
The Ocean Census joined the Schmidt Ocean Institute on its ‘Climate Connections at the Ice-Sea Interface’ expedition. The team investigated the effects of glacial activity on the seafloor, biodiversity in these extreme environments, and the dynamics of past ice sheets to understand their role in global climate and sea-level changes.

Nazca Ridge
The Ocean Census joined the Schmidt Ocean Institute on its ‘High Seas and Seamounts of the Nazca Ridge’ expedition. The Nazca Ridge, off southern Peru’s coast, is a poorly explored seafloor area with rugged terrain, including seamounts, trenches, canyons, and guyots.

Philippine Sea
The Ocean Census Philippine Sea was a Participant Expedition, led by JAMSTEC, that aimed to explore the Kyushu-Palau Ridge and Minami-Daito Jima Island areas in the north western Pacific, home to a chain of extinct volcanoes, this diverse area has long fascinated geological oceanographers.
