Taxonomic Remarks

This species is easily distinguished from other local Tetrastemma spp. by the color pattern on the head, its distinctive stylet basis, and by COI sequence data.

Description of Material

Body 5 – 15 mm long, 0.5 – 1 mm wide, light orange to sandy brown. Two pairs of ocelli. Cephalic lobe has a white anterior margin and a diffuse patch of brighter orange over the eyes. Cephalic lobe same width as neck, twice as long as it is wide, bluntly tapered, separated from body by a neck furrow. Cerebral organ furrows visible dorsally and ventrally. Posterior tip bluntly pointed. Rhynchocoel extends almost full length of body. Stylet basis cylindrical or slightly pear shaped, distally truncated. S/B = 0.5. Two accessory stylet sacs with 2 stylets in each.

Ecology

Found on weeds, in sediment and around Pyura praeputialis on rocky reefs in the intertidal zone.
