Taxonomic Remarks

This species is easily differentiated from other local species of Tetrastemma by the crescent shaped marks connecting ocelli on each side of head, and by COI sequence data.

Description of Material

Body 25 mm long, 1 mm wide, uniformly pale peach. Two pairs of ocelli. Cephalic lobe wider than neck, diamond shaped, 1.5 times longer than it is wide, separated from body by neck furrow, white in front of the anterior pair of ocelli. Anterior and posterior ocelli on each side are connected by a shallow crescent of light orange to sandy brown pigment. Oblique cerebral organ furrows visible dorsally and ventrally. Posterior tip sharply pointed. Rhynchocoel extends to near posterior tip. Stylet basis oval to pear-shaped, widest at its distal rounded end. S/B = 0.86. Two accessory stylet sacs with 2 stylets in each.

Ecology

Found in sponges on jetty pilings in the intertidal zone.
