Taxonomic Remarks

Resembles another local undescribed species Tetrastemma sp. SMSA006 from which it can be differentiated by the smaller size, bulbous stylet basis, different habitat (exposed ocean locations only in central Victoria, as opposed to sheltered bays), and by COI sequence data.

Description of Material

Body 5 to 12 mm long, 0.25 to 0.8 mm wide, golden yellow, semitranslucent. Cephalic lobe slightly wider or same width as neck, rounded, 1.4 times longer than it is wide, separated from body by neck furrow. Prominent oblique cerebral organ furrows visible dorsally and ventrally. Two pairs of ocelli. Posterior tip bluntly pointed. Rhynchocoel extends to near posterior tip. Stylet basis is a bulbous pear shape, widest at its distal rounded end. S/B = 0.5. Two accessory stylet sacs with 1 or 2 stylets each.

Ecology

Found in various species of weed on exposed coasts in the intertidal zone.
