Taxonomic Remarks

Resembles another undescribed local species, Tetrastemma sp. SMSA003, from which it differs in lacking the dark markings behind the first pair of eyes, head width (same width as opposed to wider than neck), and in lacking prominent cerebral organ furrows. It can also be differentiated by its habitat (brown weed in sheltered bays, as opposed to coralline algae on exposed shores), as well as COI sequence data.

Description of Material

Body 6 mm long, 0.5 mm wide, light beige, semitranslucent, with an interrupted opaque white mid-dorsal line which extends from the level of posterior pair of ocelli to posterior tip. Cephalic lobe same width as body, rounded, twice as long as it is wide, with no clear demarcation from the body (neck furrow indistinct). Inconspicuous cerebral organ furrows. Two pairs of relatively large ocelli. Posterior tip bluntly pointed. Stylet basis pear shaped, widest at its distal rounded end. S/B = 0.8. Two accessory stylet sacs with 2 stylets in each.

Ecology

Found only on brown weed growing on small jetty in the intertidal zone.
