Taxonomic Remarks

Can be differentiated from other locally co-occuring Tetrastemma spp. by light yellow patch on head, in combination with the characteristics of the stylet armature, and COI sequence data.

Description of Material

Body 8 mm long, 0.9 mm wide. Background colour cream, semitranslucent. Cephalic lobe very light yellow, wider than body, bluntly rounded, 1.15 times longer than wide, separated from body by neck furrow. Oblique cerebral organ furrows visible dorsally and ventrally. Two pairs of ocelli. Posterior tip rounded. Rhynchocoel reaches posterior tip of body. Stylet basis pear shaped, stout, with slight constriction in centre, widest at its distal rounded end. S/B = 0.6. Two accessory stylet sacs with 2 to 3 stylets in each.

Ecology

Lives in coralline algae and scum on sides of rocks in intertidal zone.

Distribution

Species is only known from one specimen from Shoreham Beach, Victoria, Australia.
