Taxonomic Remarks

Differs from the true Leptoderma retropinna by lower dorsal fin ray count, lower anal fin ray count, lower total vertebral count, longer prepevic length, larger maximum body depth.

Description of Material

A single specimen of 133 mm standard length.

Distribution

Only recorded from the Marion Plateau in the Coral Sea, Queensland. Conspecific with specimens from WA, Japan and some other areas of Indo-west Pacific.
